More new soon.   ——– And in the meantime a few words about our Masterclass from the 1st shoot: “Filmmaker Kantarama Gahigiri was invited by the project to teach film directing. The Rwandan and Swiss citizen has professionally been coming to Rwanda to teach workshops (…). She said that the master class was about finding local stories and empowering local crew to tell their own stories. She added that it was all about finding the specificities of Rwandan stories, how to tell them and how best bring them on screen. “It is necessary to continue this experience because most crew members are still young as well as the Rwandan film industry and it is a matter of building it”. KIGALI Changing things. One step at the time. A few words about our Masterclass: “Filmmaker Kantarama Gahigiri was invited by the project to teach film directing. She said that the master class was about finding local stories and empowering local crew to tell their own stories. Gahigiri said that in order to grow the Rwanda film industry there is a need of spaces for artists to develop their own stories. In addition to that, there has to be a way for them to earn the money because at the end of the day they have to pay their bills. “’Karani Ngufu’ for instance is funny, actual, relevant and very well acted. It has given a chance to young actors and is bringing new people on the scene,” noted Gahigiri.” Full article here. […]

Proud to be back for the Second Edition of Mashariki African Film Festival as Marraine of the Festival. The setting looks like a dream (Grand Pension Plaza in Kigali). We had a record number of people attending the Opening Ceremony and screened TIMBUKTU by Abderrahmane Sissako under the stars (an Academy Award Nominee, a Cannes Film Festival Selection, and a winner of 7 Césars). Need I say more? – Kantarama

Directing Workshop in Kigali.

March 2015, teaching a DIRECTING workshop in Kigali. I gave a lot, but I received even more. Energy is a flux. In this case, surround yourself with passionate people. I love my students. They have been more dedicated and hardworking than a lot of people who think they should be making it in the biz. Just saying. Also, did I already express my gratitude for being able to get to know Rwanda from another point of view? I have been constantly amazed by the young generation here. #BackToMyRoots – Kantarama

As I sit in the empty room of the Serena Hotel, writing my speech for my first festival as a Marraine I can feel the pressure build. In a few hours all the seats will be taken. More than 900 people, friends and family. I am so proud to be here, honored that TAPIS ROUGE is the opening film. An amazing encounter brought me here… but there’s no coincidence in life, right? My head spins. But for now, let’s finish this paper, barefeet if it helps. Life is a journey. Thank you for being part of it. – Kantarama Tapis Rouge @ IMDb
