Reflecting on last week’s adventures at Mashariki African Film Festival! It was a pleasure teaching again a two-day introductory workshop titled “Girls In Cinema” hosted by Goethe-Institut Kigali. & being Member of the Jury for African Short Films category along with my dear friends Joël Karekezi and Nirere Shanel. So many interesting exchanges, so many new connections. Great 4th Edition. So grateful ❤ thank you Universe!

March 2016, I am teaching a PRODUCING and DIRECTING workshop in Kigali. Ibrahim Ahmed, main actor from the movie Timbuktu, is teaching an ACTING workshop next door. At the end of the week we get the 2 classes together to film a few scenes of the script they came up with in their improv sessions! WOW so much fun, inspiration, creativity and hard work. I could do this again. I am going to do this again! – Kantarama

Proud to be back for the Second Edition of Mashariki African Film Festival as Marraine of the Festival. The setting looks like a dream (Grand Pension Plaza in Kigali). We had a record number of people attending the Opening Ceremony and screened TIMBUKTU by Abderrahmane Sissako under the stars (an Academy Award Nominee, a Cannes Film Festival Selection, and a winner of 7 Césars). Need I say more? – Kantarama

Directing Workshop in Kigali.

March 2015, teaching a DIRECTING workshop in Kigali. I gave a lot, but I received even more. Energy is a flux. In this case, surround yourself with passionate people. I love my students. They have been more dedicated and hardworking than a lot of people who think they should be making it in the biz. Just saying. Also, did I already express my gratitude for being able to get to know Rwanda from another point of view? I have been constantly amazed by the young generation here. #BackToMyRoots – Kantarama

As I sit in the empty room of the Serena Hotel, writing my speech for my first festival as a Marraine I can feel the pressure build. In a few hours all the seats will be taken. More than 900 people, friends and family. I am so proud to be here, honored that TAPIS ROUGE is the opening film. An amazing encounter brought me here… but there’s no coincidence in life, right? My head spins. But for now, let’s finish this paper, barefeet if it helps. Life is a journey. Thank you for being part of it. – Kantarama Tapis Rouge @ IMDb
